Nokto Download

Mac · Windows · Linux · iPhone · iPad

Simple notes on every device you own.

Nokto works like the notes app you already know. It runs offline, and it syncs with end-to-end encryption, so only your devices can read what you write.

What you get

Works offline

Every device keeps a full copy of every note. Write on a plane, and it syncs when you land.

Private sync

Notes are encrypted on your device. Our server stores them and cannot read them.

Ten themes

Pick a theme on each device. Nokto follows your system's light or dark mode.

Write without symbols

Checklists, headings and lists look finished as you type. Turn on Show Markdown if you want to see the syntax.

No lost edits

Edit the same note on two devices while offline. Nokto keeps both changes.

Find anything

Search every note as you type. Pin the notes you use most.

Your shortcut

Open Nokto from any app with a key combination you pick.

⌥Space

Also: a 30-day Trash, export of every note as Markdown, and swipe actions on iPhone.

Not yet: folders, photos and attachments, and sharing a note with someone.

The app is free

Pay only if you want us to sync your notes.

Version 0.4.0, released October 18, 2026. Installed copies update themselves.

What's new

Nokto for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Offline editing, live Markdown preview, encrypted sync, search, pinned notes, Trash, export, and desktop shortcuts.

Install and set up sync

Mac

Nokto isn't notarized by Apple yet. Drag Nokto from the .dmg into Applications and open it. When macOS can't verify the developer, click Done, then click Open Anyway in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Windows

The installer isn't code-signed yet. If SmartScreen says Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.

Linux

Make the AppImage executable, then run it: chmod +x linux-*.AppImage. It updates itself. On Debian or Ubuntu, install the .deb with sudo apt install ./linux-*.deb, and install a newer .deb to update. On GNOME, approve the keyboard shortcut once when the system asks.

Set up sync

  1. On your first device, create a new Sync Key. Save it in your password manager.
  2. On each other device, enter that Sync Key. Your notes arrive in the background.

Anyone with your Sync Key can read every note. If you lose the key and every device with Nokto, your notes cannot be recovered. Settings › Export all notes makes a backup that needs no key.
